What is a Recovery Coach?

A psychosocial recovery coach is a professional who supports NDIS participants to achieve their goals and improve their mental health and well-being. They are specifically trained to work with individuals with psychosocial disabilities and use recovery-oriented approaches to empower the participants in their journey towards a fulfilling life. They provide guidance, support, and encouragement to their clients, helping them to navigate the challenges of living with a mental health condition. The recovery coach works collaboratively with their clients to create an individualised plan for recovery that takes into account their unique strengths, challenges, and goals. This may include developing coping skills, improving communication and problem-solving abilities, and building a support network of family, friends, and mental health professionals. Ultimately, the goal of a psychosocial recovery coach is to empower their clients to take control of their lives, build resilience, and achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities of a psychosocial recovery coach include:

  • Developing a trusting and supportive relationship with participants

  • Assisting participants in creating, implementing, and evaluating recovery plans

  • Supporting participants to access and coordinate services

  • Empowering participants to develop self-advocacy skills

  • Providing guidance on coping strategies and self-management techniques
